On September 25, 2020, the Presidential Council on Intellectual Property (“PCIP”) appointed Dr. Un-Chan Chung (former Prime Minister), Mr. Jong-Yong Yun (former Chairman of the PCIP), Mr. Ja-Yeol Koo (former Chairman of the PCIP), Mr. Myung-Shin Kim (former President of the Korean Patent Attorneys Association), and Mr. Young-June Yang (attorney-at-law, Kim & Chang) as advisors to the PCIP.
Mr. Myung-Shin Kim, the managing patent attorney of Myung-Shin & Partners, led the national movement to pass the Intellectual Property Framework Act (“IPFA”), which was effective from July 20, 2011.
On July 28, 2011, the PCIP was established under the President of the Republic of Korea, according to the IPFA, as the national overseer of intellectual property policy. The PCIP is co-chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea and a civilian member (currently, Prof. Sang-Jo Jong).
